What Do You Enjoy

Priorities Change And You Lose Yourself

This I discovered as a parent of two kiddies under 10, I have fully committed myself to my relationship and family whilst leaving very little time to myself.  In doing so I had forgotten about all the hobbies and activities I used to enjoy which ranged from Riding Dirt Bikes, Body Boarding, Playing Drums, Electronics, Gaming and having a bachelor approach to paying bills and living off canned spaghetti and toast.

When this was discovered I went on what could only be described as a journey of self discovery ( still on the journey ) to try and bring back some of life’s happiness.  Figuring out what turns ya gears is harder than you would think and so I went through multiple hobbies, putting one down due to boredom before starting another. Luckily for me Wifey is supportive and always gives an excited ear to listen to my adventures.

The first things about myself I discovered is that I enjoy change and trying new things within reason and that I still loved the idea of inventing and being an ideas man.

Using my google research skills I stumbled across toy inventing and selling ideas to major companies.  I have not had any success with this yet but when I got my first rejection back from a large toy company Matel I was super pumped and felt successful,  Wifey was just as excited as me.  Who would have thought I would ever receive an email back from such a well known company.  This was not the last company I submitted ideas too and  it’s still a dream to successfully sell an idea and receive royalties from doing so.

The rush gave me a feeling of happiness in life that I never thought I would feel again. To be well known as a successful business man along with my drive to succeed as well as coming up with exciting new concepts and inventions is always something I felt deep down inside would eventually happen. There has always been slow burning embers that have fed my need to hustle on the side my whole life. Wether it be buying and selling, swapping(mainly on gumtree), finding treasures to on sell,  or thinking of different ways I could make money.

The search for life fulfillment is on going and I believe should never end as you constantly evolve to your surroundings and capabilities. I have many new hobbies and they are growing daily. Blogging, Gold Prospecting, Treasure Hunting, Fitness and Ninja Warrior style training,  Good Food,  Family, Watching series and movies, the list goes on and there is too many to list.

The idea is that you start the search and dont be to depressed If you get bored with one hobby,  put it down and move on as you may revisit it later on.

I hope to share my adventures with you on this site and let you know when I’m successful in order to give you that no BS info you want hot off the press.

Gold Hunter Part 1

The journey begins with an itch,

A moment of amazement as I began to think about solving all my financial problems with one massive nug of gold.

This soon fades as you realize the cost of top brand metal detectors that most of the prospecting websites suggest!

If you are like me you possess the skill to convince yourself of anything and quickly convince yourself to ignore all the websites and forums you read and buy a cheap detector telling yourself that you will soon find enough treasures to purchase that top brand Minelab or Garret detector and get into the goldfields to find your fortune.

I did alot of research and discovered that I needed to get my Miners Rights and download the tengraph from the department of mining and petroleum to avoid prospecting illegally. Things seemed to be getting serious now as I had to google instructions on how to use the tengraph and decipher the gibberish contained within. All of a sudden I had a mapping system at my fingertips with information on mines and tenements.

I was mad keen getting up at the crack of dawn and heading down to the local beach, town or suspected hot spot to find I had already been beaten there by the detecting pro’s. In the first month I found alot of rubbish including nails, bottle tops & ring pulls, my total fortune found was around 30cents in coins and my dreams of financial freedom were slipping away once again.

I quickly realised that my cheaper detector would find metal objects, but only if they were on the surface. We even swung it over my wife’s gold ring and it bairly beeped at all. I was wasting my time!

I have convinced myself again that it might just work and chuck it in the ute to take on our holiday to Kalgoorlie in Western Australia. I spent hours researching public prospecting areas close to Kalgoorlie and printing maps, not to mention googling hardcore trying to find even the smallest hint of gold locations.

We arrive in town and I can almost taste and smell the gold and feel the excitement of pulling my first nugget out tomorrow morning ,

I awake early with my backpack at the ready containing a pick, plastic shovel, container for all of my nuggs, handheld UHF, water and a can of hardcore fly spray. Its hot already as I arrived at my spot. The detector is on and it’s beeping away almost straight away. Here’s where I find out what ground balancing does and how hard it is in the goldfields, I am digging holes and finding nothing as if the target is moving( This is due to the ground being heavily mineralised with metals and setting off my detector) , next I find old tins and rubbish and the depression sets in . This is all too hard and feels impossible for me to master, a couple hours passes quickly and I head back to the family with my head hung low.

My stay in Kalgoorlie helped to feed my gold fever back into swing as we visit Finders Keepers and The Prospectors Patch in Kalgoorlie and I take a look at and hold my first gold nugget thanks to the team at The Prospectors Patch. Wow there’s still Gold around but I need a new detector if I am to have any chance of finding it.

A couple months after we returned home I chucked my detector on the net and was lucky enough to sell it for a really good price and walked away without losing anything but time and effort.

Whilst this whole adventure was going on I had been into a local prospecting store called The Prospectors Pick and purchased some gold panning gear and spent time panning in Margaret River and every other rocky looking creek I came across, this proved difficult as once you actually try to gain access to creeks you quickly realise that most of them are on private property and are securely fenced off.

Finding gold is hard especially when you are getting started or if you’re not lucky enough to stumble across some.

I will put some links up to my favourite prospecting websites and video’s soon.

This story is long from over and I hope it will save you some time or help you to get started In the great Aussie adventure that is treasure/gold hunting!
